Abu Dhabi Police Extra Vigilant During Ramadan 2017

- Police patrolling in Abu Dhabi has been increased for Ramadan 2017, in busy areas like markets, commercial streets and mosques
- The increased safety measures has been initiated by the Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrols Directorate to reduce causes of accidents, fatalities, and serious injuries during Ramadan
- The campaign aims to promote road safety and stresses that all drivers should abide by the traffic laws, according to the Director of the Traffic Department
- Traffic rules to follow include always wearing seatbelts, avoiding jumping red lights and using handheld mobile phones while driving, maintaining a safe distance between vehicles and ensuring that children under the age of 10 are seated in the backseat
- Ramadan 2017 started on 27th May and will go on till 24th June in UAE
- Road safety is more stressed on during Ramadan because drivers are more prone to causing accidents, due a lack of focus from fasting
- Since Ramadan is taking place during the summer in UAE, drivers are not only affected by fasting by also by the heat and dehydration
- The traffic directorate’s initiative is not only for drivers in Abu Dhabi , but also pedestrians, who have been reminded to cross the roads at the designated areas and to use the bridges and passageways
- During Ramadan, traffic patrol officers, along with Al Ihsan Charitable Society and other volunteers, will be giving out free Iftar meals to drivers caught up in traffic jams to end their fast on the roads
