Abu Dhabi Grand Slam kicks off in Los Angeles in September

The ever-expanding Abu Dhabi Grand Slam will see the first leg of the jiu-jitsu championship series taking place on September 3 and 4 in Los Angeles.
The UAE jiu-jitsu federation are determined to see the series grow and believe they will attract the best players from across the globe after offering over $100,000 in cash prizes.
Black belt winners in the adult GI category will also earn complimentary flights to Abu Dhabi for the grand slam event in the UAE capital in January 2017.
“Los Angeles is a city that holds the sport of Jiu-Jitsu in very high regards and has some of the best players train and live over there,” said Abdulmunam Al Hashemi, chairman of the UAE jiu-jitsu federation.
“This is a highly competitive sport and we attract the best of the best Jiu-Jitsu players from across the globe.
“Last year the spectators witnessed some thrilling entertainment and this year we are aspiring to exceed our own expectations and take the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam to the next level.”
The first-place winner in the respective weight categories of the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam will receive 200 points. The second-place winner will receive 160 points and the third-place winner will receive 120 points.
Top confirmed competitors to take part in Los Angeles include black belt champions Erberth Santos, Ricardo Evangelista, Andre Campos and world champion Mackenzie Dern.
