Abu Dhabi Clarifies ‘Increase’ In Water Tariff

In response to a report Khaleej Times published on January 4 about a hike in water and electricity tariff in the Capital, the Abu Dhabi Distribution Company has issued a clarification. According to the authority, a conservation-oriented tariff has been introduced to discourage water wastage.
The distribution company has increased the water charges for expatriates by 6.5 per cent – to Dh10.55 from Dh9.90 per 1,000 litres – on consumption beyond the threshold of 5,000 litres per day for villas. The consumption limit for apartments is 700 litres a day.
There is no increase in tariff for consumers who consume 5,000 litres of water a day.
The tariff for government entities has also been increased to Dh10.55 per 1,000 litres, charging them the full cost of producing water. There is no change in the electricity tariff. Details
