The international event will take place on May 7 at 4.30am as dawn is breaking to emphasise the idea of walking into light

Residents have been invited to participate in a first of its kind 5km walk on May 7, which aims to spread the message of hope in the community.

The unique international event called ‘Darkness Into Light’ will be held for the first time in the Middle East at Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi.

The walk has been hosted in over 100 venues across Europe, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. Thousands of people attending the event gather in darkness at locations across the world and walk the 5km route as dawn is breaking.

The symbolism of commencing in darkness and walking into the light gives the occasion its impact in the community and delivers a potent message of hope to all, organisers have said.

“Darkness Into Light will be a positive community event and a good addition to Abu Dhabi as it will reinforce the wonderful community spirit that is already present here. Although it started in Ireland, it is an event that should be inclusive of all nationalities and really hopes to bring everyone together,” they said.
