50% discount on traffic fines in UAQ begins

The Umm Al Quwain Police are now offering a 50 per cent discount on all fines for traffic offences committed on the roads of the northern emirate.
A top police officer said the three-month discount scheme began on Saturday and will be in place till December 3. Many drivers will benefit from the scheme, allowing for expired registration cards to be renewed.
Lt-Col Saeed Obaid bin Aran, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department of UAQ Police Directorate General, said only the fines imposed by the UAQ traffic police will be eligible for the discount.
“The 50 per cent discount spans unpaid fines for speeding and other traffic violations, and these may be paid at any service centre across the country.”
Lt-Col bin Aran noted that the only exceptions to this scheme are violations that pose a risk to road users’ life, such as driving at more than 160kmph, jumping red traffic signal, racing, over tinting car windows, and other such offences.
“Errant motorists need to appear in person at the UAQ traffic department and hand over their vehicles for impoundment or pay the fine.” Details
