Transpotation

The Department of Transport’s (DoT) vision is to provide an effective transport system that contributes to the economic growth, quality of life and environmental sustainability of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. In line with its vision, DoT works on the regulation, planning and development of an efficient and well-integrated transport system that serves the public interest by enhancing mobility and delivering safe, secure and environmentally responsible public transport in Abu Dhabi.
Such a sophisticated public transport system can only be achieved through proper planning and regulation. Therefore, different public transport modes in Abu Dhabi are being planned and developed in response to the unprecedented urban expansion and population growth of the Emirate. These include Bus, Ferries, Metro, LRT and other modes of public transport in Abu Dhabi.
Bus Transportation
The Public Bus Transportation Service was announced in 2008 as part of DoT’s endeavour to develop a world-class integrated public transport network catering to the needs of the community in different parts of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Since its launch in 2008, DoT has focused on continuously developing and enhancing the coverage and quality of its bus services at all levels. As of the end of 2011, the Bus Office at the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi operates around 650 busses on over 95 service routes catering to more than (50m) fifty million passengers within the different regions of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Park and Ride
The Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi launched the Park and Ride scheme in Abu Dhabi as an initiative that assists in reducing traffic congestion within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, specifically within Abu Dhabi Island.
Ferry Services
The Department of Transport operates two passenger and vehicle ferries to and from Delma Island through Jabal Al Dhanna (Mugharaq Port) and Delma Island Port. Both ferries have daily trips departing from each port, thus making it possible to visit Delma Island and return to the mainland in one day.
The Abu Dhabi Metro Rail System
Supported by tram and bus feeder services on approximately 131 KM, ‘Abu Dhabi Metro’ rail system is intended to serve a substantial proportion of passenger trips and relieve traffic congestions on the highway network , as well as to provide optimal connectivity between Abu Dhabi Island and its suburbs and upcoming communities such as Saadiyat, Yas Islands and Al Raha Beach.
