Use Smartphones Instead of Passports at Dubai Airport

- A new smart scheme enabling travelers to use their smartphones instead of their passport or express gate cards at Dubai International Airport has been launched in Dubai
- Dubbed the “Emirates Smart Wallet”, the scheme will further streamline travel movement across DXB, and is considered the first of its kind in the world
- The smart scheme at Dubai International Airport incorporates traveler personal data, Emirates ID and passport information as well as the e-gate card data all on the passenger’s mobile
- The scheme was launched at DXB’s departure terminal by Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Dubai’s Deputy Chief of Police and Public Security, and Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Head of Dubai’s Naturalisation and Residency Department
- Dubai International Airport is the busiest airport in the world in terms of the volume of international passengers
- DXB the third busiest airport in the world by passenger traffic, the sixth busiest cargo airport in world, the busiest airport for Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 movements, and the busiest airport in the world operating with only two runways
- The “Emirates Smart Wallet” scheme is a stepping stone for a large-scale project to reduce travel clearing procedures to the minimum
- UAE residents have the option to skip long immigration lines and clear it at the E-Gate facility using just their Emirates ID
- Dubai International Airport is forecasting 89 million passengers this year, representing growth of about 6.5 per cent
