- An advanced cyber security network was rolled out across 35 federal bodies, with the aim to protect the UAE government against advanced persistent threats
- The security system, named as the Federal Network, was introduced by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) on Saturday, 12th August, 2017
- FEDNet will serve as a common infrastructure for federal entities and will allow interconnection and data exchange between all local and federal government entities
- The FEDNet system verifies the pattern of any e-content, whether an email or a website, and then assesses any suspicious patterns in how the data is dealt with
- The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) is responsible for managing every aspect of the telecommunications and information technology industries in UAE
- Before launching FEDNet, examining and testing TRA’s Computer Emergency Response Team devices, aeCERT, and coordination with all connected government entities was carried out
- The launch of the FEDNet comes after two major cyberattacks that hit government bodies across the world in 2017 – the spread of the computer viruses WannaCry and Petya
- In late May 2017, the emirate of Dubai launched a cyber security strategy to strengthen the city’s position as a world leader in innovation, safety and security and manage cyber security risks
