Smartphones will soon be the New Passport at DXB
- A soon-to-be-implemented project will allow you to go straight to boarding gate without undergoing immigration check at Dubai Airport
- The ongoing Gitex Technology Week revealed that two future projects and one currently being implemented will make travelling smooth and smart at Dubai Airports
- As part of the Dubai 10X Initiative, a futuristic project will allow a traveller to ride a Tesla e-car, equipped with immigration checks before they even reach the airport
- All information will be captured by the smart car, including passport details, baggage weight and size, and scan for prohibited items
- The implementation of new projects at Dubai Airports is handled by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs (GDRFA) in Dubai
- GITEX, which stands for the Gulf Information & Technology Exhibition, is an annual technology exhibition, and the first in the Middle East
- During the Gitex Technology Week 2017, a new ‘Smart Tunnel’ technology was introduced, which will allow passengers to clear passport control within 15 seconds
- In May 2017, GDRFA introduced the Smart UAE Wallet, an app which contains all the passport details and smart gate card data of the traveller
- The Smart UAE Wallet app is currently available to download for free on iTunes and Google Play
