Sheikh Mohammed Launches UAE’s First Unfenced Desert Reserve

  1. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum launched the Marmoom Reserve project, the first unfenced desert conservation reserve in the country
  2. The Marmoom project spans 10% of the emirate of Dubai’s total area, enjoying over 40 hectares of shrubland and fertile area
  3. The reserve will introduce more than 20 environmental, cultural and sports-related initiatives, sponsored by nine Dubai government agencies
  4. The reserve is home to over 204 species of native birds, 158 species of migratory birds, and over 10km of lakes, encompassing the Al Qudra Lakes

  2. By 2030, Marmoom Reserve will host more than 20 annual sporting events, which will attract an estimated 20000 participants
  3. The Marmoom Reserve will include 10 animal and bird observation platforms, star and sunset observations decks, areas for yoga, and an outdoor theatre
  4. Plans are in place for Marmoom’s cycling tracks to add up to the longest in any desert anywhere in the world
  5. The Marmoom Reserve is an environmental, touristic and sporting addition to life in the UAE
