- Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan issued a federal decree to change the name of the Emirates Identity Authority to the Federal Authority for Identity and Naturalisation
- The Federal Authority for Identity and Naturalisation will be tasked with identity, naturalization and passports affairs as well as the entry and residency of foreigners
- Under the Decree no. 3 of 2017, the present naturalisation and residency laws will remain enforced until the new laws of the new authority are issued and enforced
- The new authority will be chaired by a seven-member board of directors, who will have a term membership of three years
- The Emirates Identity Authority issues the Emirates ID, which is a mandatory identity for all UAE residents and nationals
- E-services of EIDA include applying, replacing, renewing and enquiring about the Emirates ID, as well as filing fine exemption or complaint regarding Emirates ID
- There are 2 EIDA branches in Ajman, 15 in Abu Dhabi, 11 in Dubai, 4 in Fujairah, 2 in Ras Al Khaimah, 11 in Sharjah and 1 in Umm Al Quwain
- EIDA offers a range of services which are customised to the demographic of the person, whether they are a UAE national, GCC national, UAE resident or expat
- Most EIDA centres in UAE have working hours between 07:00 AM and 02:30 PM, and the exceptions work maximum till 04:00 PM
