- The Self-driving Transport Strategy (STS) puts Dubai closer to the target of covering 25 per cent of the city’s trips through self-driving vehicles by 2030
- The transition to self-driving in Dubai is powered by a government entity, and is inclusive of all modes of public transport as well as private vehicles, which sets the STS strategy apart from others
- STS is aligned with Dubai’s Smart Transport Strategy launched by Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai
- The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is the regulatory authority for all matters regarding transport and road safety in the emirate of Dubai
- Self-driving initiatives will play an instrumental role in reducing mobility costs, improving traffic safety, and curbing pollution by cutting carbon emissions
- The Enterprise Command and Control Centre (EC3) in Dubai will play a pivotal role in providing real-time and accurate information for the Self-driving Transport Strategy of RTA
- RTA has already reaped some of self-driving transport through the driverless Dubai Metro, wherein the accuracy of timetables is higher by 6.4%, and the operational costs are lower by 7%
- RTA’s Self-driving Transport Strategy is predicted to induce a global contest between companies with significant expertise in smart transport
