A beach in Umm Suqeim is kept open till midnight, so people can swim during the night too
It is the first beach of its kind in the world, which functions solely on clean energy and smart design
The beach is equipped with floodlights and lifeguards who switch shifts every twelve hours
The beach spans 125 metres in length, and swimmers are allowed to go up to 30 metres into the sea
The beach was opened on 21st May, 2017, after Dubai Police made tighter regulations on swimming at night
The opening of the night beach is a result of nearly 300 mission calls and 73 accidents after hours that the Dubai Police handled in 2016
Even during regular beach hours, lifeguards faced 1147 rescue missions in Umm Suqeim, Jumeirah and Al Mamzar, just between July 2016 and April 2017
Deaths due to drowning had increased to 30 cases in 2016, from 24 cases in 2015, which made it more imperative to increase safety on beaches, especially at night
Around 60 lifeguards monitor swimmers on weekdays and 84 of them are on watch in the weekends, apart from which red flags are planted to stop people from swimming after hours
