Muslims will soon observe Eid Al-Fitr, the festival that marks the end of Ramadan.
Sunrise-to-sunset fasting has ended for the world’s Muslims, and the Islamic community transitions from the month of Ramadan to the month of Shawwaal with a joyous “Feast of the Breaking of the Fast,” called Eid al-Fitr. (Eid Sa’id! is a common greeting, meaning, happy Eid!) Eid Al-Fitr, which means Festival of the Breaking of the Fast, will see Muslims gather for the congregational prayer in mosques or special prayer grounds around the world.

In Arabic, the Eid Al-Fitr prayers are called “Salat Al Eid”. On the day of Eid al-Fitr before sunrise, Muslims pray, bathe and put on their best clothes. A small breakfast that usually includes dates, is consumed before heading to a nearby mosque. While there’s no audible call to prayer for the Eid prayers, Muslims gather in a mosque or open space to offer “Rakaat”. After that, a sermon follows, which the imam asks for forgiveness, mercy, and peace for every being across the world. Following prayers in unison, feasting commences.
Eid Al Fitr Prayer Timings
Mosques in Abu Dhabi will hold the Eid Al-Fitr prayers at 5.50am, In Al Ain, the timing is 5.44am, while in Madinat Zayed (Western region), it is 5.55am. Apart from these, in the other emirates, Eid Al Fitr prayers will be held 20 minutes after Shuruq (sunrise).
Accordingly, the prayer timings in the different emirates are expected to be as follows:
Abu Dhabi city: 5.50am
Al Ain: 5.44am
Madinat Zayed: 5.55am
Dubai: 5.45am
Sharjah: 5.45am
Ajman: 5.45am
Ras Al Khaimah: 5.41am
Umm Al Quwain: 5.41am
Fujairah: 5.39am

More than 46,860 worshippers gathered at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque to perform the Taraweeh and Tahajud prayers on the night of 27th Ramadan. Though the prayer halls and the yards of the iconic mosque were filled to its capacity, the volunteers made sure that the worshippers had a comfortable experience. Later Iftar meals were served at the mosque. The Shaikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre provided a range of services including free buses to transport the worshippers to and from the mosque.
