- Hundreds of colourful kites flew overhead as families gathered for the International Kite Show in Dubai on Friday, 19th January 2018
- The kite show took place at a beach corner inside Al Mamzar Beach Park in Dubai, between 10 AM and 7 PM
- The star attraction was a kite show by a team of professional kite flyers from India, lead by Mehul J Pathak, who has been honoured by the American Kitefliers Association
- The crowd was mostly made of Indian expats, who were reminded of kite competitions back home during Makar Sankranthi
- The American Kitefliers Association the largest kite club in the world, started in 1964, to promote kiting and kite flying around the world
- Dubai hosts the Dubai International Kite Fest at Kite Beach in March every year, and will be returning for its 4th edition in 2018
- Makar Sankranti is a Hindu festival which marks the first day of sun’s transit into the Makara (Capricorn) in January every year
- Makar Sankranti is typically celebrated in India through kite flying, bonfires, fairs, sun salutations in rivers, feast, arts, dance and socialisation
- The Mamzar Beach Park is a popular family destination over the weekends, offering a public beach and a park in the same location
