Due to a jump in conflicts, the number of refugees have risen to record high



- Globally to date 68.5 million people have been displaced
- In 2017 alone, 16 million people have been displaced around the globe
- The results are shocking according to the annual report by a UN agency
- The report titled ‘Global Trends’ was prepared by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
- The report was released on Wednesday, June 20th, which marks the eve of the World Refugee Day
- There is someone displaced from one in every 110 people across all countries
- Of the 68.5 million, 25.4 million of the refugees have fled their countries to escape conflict
- The number of asylum seekers has risen to 3.1 million from just 300,000 as of December 31st, 2017
- There are 44,500 people that are being displaced each day with one person being displaced ever two seconds
