Dubai’s new tower will emulate the ascent of Mt Everest

BASETOWER01[1]

As the Emirate’s thirst for extreme sports continues, it looks as though Dubai could be getting a 325 meter base jumping tower.

A report published by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) showcases the tower, which has been designed by architectural firm 10 Design.

The building has a hexagrid skin and will be a multi-purpose development, with the lower levels catering to tourists with a visitor centre. While the upper levels, where the buildings structure flares out, will be dedicated to a series of ‘ice climbs’ for only the most advanced sports enthusiasts.

“This structural skin flares out at both the base and the top of the tower to provide not only structural stability, but also to house a series of extreme sports activities. Conceptually, the tower’s functions emulate the ascent to Mount Everest, with multiple “base camps”, the CTBUH said quoting ‘Archello’ magazine.

Emulating the ascent of Mount Everest in Dubai certainly sounds like an exciting prospect and the beachfront location close to JBR and SkyDive Dubai is likely to attract large numbers of tourists and residents alike.

“The base and lower levels of the tower contains a training, simulator, and visitor experiences, including junior climbing walls, wire assisted high diving, and free-fall facilities.”

A 140m elevated climbing experience, abseiling and a vertical cliff  are all being planned for the impressive structure which you can see in these images released by the Dubai Media Office:
