A world record-setting multimedia spectacle “featuring ethereal and cosmic themes, using ballet and contemporary dance,” at Dubai Festival City (DFC) officially opened the 22nd edition of Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) on Monday night.
Witnessed by around 5,000 spectators, the show carrying the theme ‘Imagine,’ was also attended by officials from Guinness World Records who verified the attempt for the largest water screen projection in the world.
Playing to spark the audience’s imagination was the production entitled ‘Stardancer,’ an artistic performance featuring ethereal and cosmic themes. The heroine of the show is a ballerina who interacts gracefully with the cosmos around her.
The story begins with her beautiful eyes gazing around the bay. She then starts dancing across the water and while her graceful movements create orbit lines and draw planets and stars, she also unleashes the forces of chaos around her.
Geysers spew fireballs, danger ensues and the ballerina is trapped in dark force field. But the planetary bodies conspire to save her; jets of water as high as 30 metres neutralise the dark forces and the ballerina is saved and is able to dance again.
According to the mall administration, the free-to-the-public new attraction, which is part of an overall investment of Dh1.5 billion by Al Futtaim Group Real Estate to reinvigorate DFC, will become a daily event at the mall.
“Imagine is representative of the evolution of Festival City and symbol of its innovative future. It is anything you want it to be – exciting, exhilarating, surreal, dreamlike,” said Steven Cleaver, director of shopping centres at Al Futtaim Real Estate
“Imagine signifies the endless opportunities and possibilities of viewers from Dubai and around the world to interact and be a part of the show and to connect with something truly unique,” he explained.
