Dubai Police Introduce Machines to Catch Reckless Drivers

- Dubai Police have introduced a new device to catch motorists who put other road users life in danger by jumping the queue in tailbacks, driving on the hard shoulder or driving recklessly
- The new smart device to catch offenders on roads is being installed as addition to existing radars and cameras to reduce serious traffic offences on the roads
- The new device, called ‘Smart Controller’, will monitor the external roads in the emirate and has 9 more advanced specifications than conventional radars
- The device, which will be controlled by officers via their smartphones, can be fixed on a fence and can move automatically for some distance to read number plates and capture speeding
- Dubai Police is the main regulatory authority in the emirate, with a force of 15000, functioning for over 60 years in Dubai
- Some of the most dangerous violations motorists commit on the roads include sudden swerving, speeding, not leaving enough distance between vehicles and jumping the red lights
- From 1st July, 2017, seat belts were made mandatory for all drivers and passengers in UAE, with a penalty of AED 400 for failing to do so
- Dubai Police fined almost 38000 people between July and August 2017, because they failed to follow safety rules
- Dubai Police launched six new projects in June 2017, in order to improve their services and productivity
