- Dubai Electricity and Water Authority launched a new project to install solar carports at their headquarters and the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment building
- The project aims to generate electricity, using photovoltaic (PV) panels, connected to DEWA’s network, in the parking lots at the two sites, with a total of 902 parking spaces
- The DEWA parking lot will have a capacity of 1780 kilowatts, and that of ministry’s building will generate 220 KW, together generating around 2,750 MWp
- The project is part of the Shams Dubai initiative, and part of DEWA’s efforts to increase reliance on clean energy and support towards Smart Dubai
- DEWA is a public service infrastructure company that was founded on 1st January, 1992, by Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, former Ruler of Dubai
- Shams Dubai is DEWA’s first smart initiative to connect solar energy to buildings, a part of the Distributed Renewable Resources Generation programme
- DEWA has completed linking its network with 450 residential and commercial buildings, with a total capacity of about 17.7MW, through Shams Dubai
- DEWA is working to link all buildings in the emirate of Dubai by 2030
- Dubai aims to be a global hub for clean energy and green economy by providing 7% of its total clean energy by 2020, 25% by 2030 and 75% by 2050
