Documents required to rent a car in Abu Dhabi and Dubai:

1. Passport
2. Valid UAE Residence Visa
3. Credit card
Advance payment for the car rental period would be taken along with the security deposit of the car. The Car rental security deposit would be refunded once the car is returned. Tyically, this payment is done with credit card, but UAE residents can also pay with cash as well.
4. UAE Driving license
Home country driving license is not accepted for UAE residents who have obtained their residence visas.
5. Emirates ID

Typically, the car rental agencies would take a photocopy of the required documents.
Once the documentation is completed, the car rental agency would show the car and document any visible defects in the car. Check this step carefully. You will have to pay for any new defects that the car rental company finds when you are returning the car back to them.
