Black Points Cancelled for Nearly 900,000 Drivers in Abu Dhabi

  1. Black points of 883,000 motorists for minor offences has been removed from their traffic files by the Abu Dhabi Police
  2. Abu Dhabi Police announced that any black points against a driver registered before 1st July, 2017, will be removed
  3. The amended regulations of the Federal Traffic Law No (21) of 1995 and Cabinet Resolutions (177) and (178) of 2017 are being implemented by the Abu Dhabi Police as part of UAE’s Year of Giving
  4. Motorists who committed major violations like driving dangerously, exceeding maximum speed limit, jumping a red signal, driving in a way that endangered people’s lives, driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs or similar substances, will not have their black points written off
  1. The Abu Dhabi Police is responsible for implementing traffic fines in the city, which they periodically try to improve to motivate drivers to abide by the laws and enhance their efforts to make roads safer
  2. The Abu Dhabi Police force is under the command of Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the watch of Brigadier Ali Khalfan Al Daheri, Director-General of Central Operations
  3. From 1st July 2017, heavier fines for traffic violations in Abu Dhabi like not wearing seat belts and jumping red lights have been implemented, as per the amended executive regulations of 2017’s Federal Traffic Law No. 21
  4. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan declared 2017 as the ‘Year of Giving’ in the UAE, which focuses on three aspects: social responsibility, enhancing the spirit of volunteering, and commitment to serve the country
  5. A driver can accumulate up to 24 black points at one time, after which their license will be confiscated for a minimum of three months up to a year
