Apple Pay Out Service in UAE Available From Today
- Anyone with an iPhone 6 or later model can start using Apple Pay in UAE from today, 24th October
- Apple Pay is available for credit cards from Mashreq, Emirates NBD, Emirates Islamic, RAK Bank, HSBC, or Standard Chartered banks
- Apple Pay can be used anywhere that uses a contactless payment terminal, such as the wireless credit card readers available with most UAE retailers
- UAE is the first country in the Middle East to have the Apple Pay service, and the 20th country overall
- Apple Pay is a mobile payment and digital wallet service by Apple Inc. that lets users make payments using an iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad or Mac
- Apple Pay was originally launched in 2014 in the US, and launched internationally in 2015
- Apple Pay uses a process called “tokenization” to make payments secure, wherein a token replaces all of a user’s sensitive data with information that cannot be manipulated
- Digital wallets have been getting increasingly popular in the UAE, especially in terms of NFC-enabled POS (point-of-sale) terminals
- Apple Pay will face major direct competition in UAE from Samsung Pay and BEAM
