Abu Dhabi Police received more than a million emergency calls during the first half of this year.
Authorities said police operations room across the emirate received 1,227,645 calls in the first six months of 2016.
The operations rooms in Abu Dhabi received 801,679 calls, 357,617 calls were received in Al Ain and 68,349 were made in the western region.
Traffic and crime-related notifications were the largest proportion of the calls received via the emergency number 999.
Police said that more than 90 per cent of people who made calls to their control room were satisfied by the force’s response to emergencies and answering the calls.
Lt Col Nasser Sulaiman Al Maskari, Director of Operations in the Department of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police, said they have the latest equipment which enable them to handle emergency calls effectively.
Cops said reports are also placed into three categories: Very important, Important and Normal to indicate the urgency with which authorities should respond to the calls.
Very important reports include fires with injuries, important ones include traffic congestions while a normal status applies to small incidents without injuries.
Instructions provided on the Abu Dhabi Police website state that anyone making an emergency call must remain calm when giving information about their name and location of the crime.
