Plans have been unveiled by Dubai Holdings and Emaar Properties to have a new shopping mall be built at the very heart of the upcoming Dubai Creek Harbour development.
The project has been dubbed as Dubai Square and the new retail will offer 8.07 million sq ft of gross retail space. This is really quite huge. To have it in perspective it comes to more than 100 football pitches, or something that is nearly double the size of Dubai Mall, the world’s largest mall on the face of this earth currently.
The mall is split across three levels and will also have the very new Chinatown project incorporated into it, as well as in event arena luxury retail, dining and leisure outlets. In the plan are also a cineplex, waterpark and an art district.
The mall is also very ‘tech-driven’ offering their customers the option to shop for their favorite products either via a desktop, a mobile phone device or in person at a retail store within the mall. For this to be successfully executed, the mall will incorporate technology like mobile apps, quick checkout solutions, search and barcode scanning applications, radio-frequency identification technology, mobile payments and click-and-collect services. Now that is definitely the future of retail. No doubt.
The Dubai Square is going to be linked through an underground extension to the Dubai Creek Tower which is all set to become Dubai’s tallest tower. So far, there has been no news or word as to when the project will be complete. But considering its size, we can be safe to say that it sure is going to take a whole more time that we sure think as of now.
