- Meters in 7000 taxis in Dubai have been upgraded to offer passengers the choice of donating AED 1 towards RTA’s Dirham Khair initiative
- The initiatives is one of the seven launched under RTA Foundation and the proceeds from the elective donations will be directed to support humanitarian activities
- Since the initiative’s launch in December 2017, 34,945 passengers have opted to contribute to Dirham Khair
- According to the RTA, the overwhelming support from passengers is a clear testament to the caring spirit shared by citizens, residents and tourists of Dubai
- Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is the government entity that is responsible for developing and maintaining all transport-related infrastructure in Dubai
- The Dirham Khair is available on a separate page of RTA App, and Dubai Drive App, in both Arabic and English
- Users can make donations to Dirham Khair when processing transactions relating to renewing vehicles or driving licences or paying fines through the RTA app
- The RTA Foundation was launched by Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, in May 2017, as part of UAE’s Year of Giving
- RTA Foundation’s seven initiatives for 2017 were Global Contributions, Charitable STEPS, Training programme, Wheel Chair, Dubai Engage, Dirham of Benevolence and Charity Bridge
